Cranking out some cool stuff for beginners out there who want to be beat makers. I’d really like for the site to become a destination for guys just starting out who want to be get to the point they are able to sell their beats commercially, and from there go on to become recognized producers.
I’ve been toying around with a few other ideas too. From maybe opening it up to accept guest posts in addition to our editorial content, to a few other possible ideas. Really want this one to be the best site of its kind. Starting from scratch here, but I think we can get there.
Gotta start working on some beat making software reviews too for the reviews section. Trying to figure out how to strike a balance. Want to do reviews that are short and sweet, but then also do in depth walkthroughs. Kind of like a standard review, and then occasionally a crazy in depth one. Mainly due to time constraints. Have to think about that one some more.
Hey I came across a really cool site today too while poking around, its called the Hip Hop Directory, its a directory of hip hop and beat maker websites. Its huge.
Came across a few new products and decided to create some forums for them on the site, I had added a forum setup integrated with wordpress last night. Figured I would be the first to create Cyber Sequencer and DUBTurbo Forums and hopefully grow it. They are inexpensive software tools, but claim to be pretty good. I guess for beginners its a good way to get into things without forking over a ton of cash.
Was just messing around looking at what is new out there and stuff to review and write about on the new site. I’m really not looking to build yet another Fruity Loops site 😉 But something focused specifically on beats and beat making as opposed to full on high end DAWs, although I’ve got stuff to say about that too. Beats are interesting because it attracts so many new people, kind of a stepping stone for a lot of kids into more serious production. So anyway, I found two new products PreSonus Studio One looks pretty cool on the mid range DAW and DUBTurbo looks interesting as a beginner level beat maker. Studio One looks similar to like the Reaper/Sonic/Cubase stuff of the world, DUBTurbo looks to be more sample based sequencer kind of reminiscent of Fruity Loops when it first came out or it kinda even makes me think of old mod trackers. Not sure if DUBTurbo does VSTs or not. I’ll have to poke around some more. Studio One I really want to pick up my own copy one of these days and produce something with it. Maybe that will be my August project.
Spent a lot of today putting together our Beat Battle feature. Its a pretty cool thing where visitors can vote between 2 beats for the best one. It’ll then keep picking random beats to battle that you vote on.
Gotta write some more content for the site too and start getting it populated. I got another cool feature coming too keep your eyes peeled 🙂
Yeah so I’m building up a website about beats. And wanted a place to kinda put my running thoughts and stream of consciousness. So here it is.
This should be a pretty cool blog about what goes on behind the scenes. Got lots of ideas. Too many. Oh and I think I’m funny. Some people think I am.
